Owned citations

Owned citations are the pages on your own domain that AI answer engines reference when answering a buyer question. They are the one channel you control outright, which makes them the fastest place to close a gap.

The problem

Most teams assume their best-performing SEO pages are the ones AI engines cite. They usually are not. Engines pull the page that answers a specific sub-question cleanly, which is often a page nobody has looked at in a year.

Without knowing which of your own URLs get cited, content strategy is guesswork. You end up rewriting pages that were already working and ignoring the ones that were never going to be picked up.

How it works

  1. We isolate citations to your own domain

Every captured answer is scanned for cited URLs. The ones on your domain are separated out into their own view, per prompt, engine and country.

  2. See the page, not just the domain

The view is page-level. You get the specific URL that earned the citation, not a count against your homepage.

  3. Register the pages you are betting on

Add a page in My AEO Assets and it is tracked from that moment, so you can watch a new piece of content get picked up rather than discovering it by accident.

  4. Export the list

CSV export, so the list of what works and what does not can go straight to whoever owns the content calendar.

What you see

Who it's for. Content and SEO leads who need to know which pages to write more of, and which to stop investing in, based on what engines actually cite rather than what ranks in Google.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as an owned citation?

Any URL on your own domain that an AI engine referenced while answering one of your tracked prompts.

Why do my top Google pages not get cited?

Engines retrieve against the sub-queries they generate, not your target keyword. A page can rank well and still never answer the question the engine actually ran. Query fan-out analysis is where you see those sub-queries.

Can I track a page before it gets cited?

Yes. Add it in My AEO Assets and it is tracked from then on.

Do I need to install anything on my site?

No. Everything is observed from the engine side, so there is no script or tag.
