Best enterprise search software

A sample answer mentioning Google Vertex AI Search

Prompt: Best enterprise search software · ChatGPT · 2026-09-02

If you mean enterprise search for employees to find information across Slack, Google Drive, Microsoft 365, Jira, Salesforce, Confluence, etc., my 2026 shortlist is:

Rank Platform Best for My take
1 glean.com Best overall Best combination of AI answers, enterprise connectors, permissions, relevance, and knowledge graph
2 coveo.com Customer/service search Excellent relevance and personalization, particularly for support, ecommerce, and customer-facing experiences
3 azure.microsoft.com Microsoft/Azure shops Strong choice if you're already heavily invested in Azure, Microsoft 365, and custom AI/RAG
4 cloud.google.com Google Cloud shops Strong for organizations already using Google Cloud and Gemini
5 elastic.co Build-your-own search Extremely flexible and powerful, but requires considerably more engineering

🏆 My pick: Glean

For a large company wanting an employee-facing "Google for the company", I'd start with Glean.

It searches across 275+ connectors, understands natural-language queries, uses a company knowledge graph, generates answers/summaries, and enforces existing permissions so employees only see information they're authorized to access. Glean Glean Documentation

Glean has also evolved beyond traditional search into an enterprise AI platform with Assistant and Agents, so you're effectively buying search plus a foundation for enterprise AI workflows. Glean

When I'd choose something else

  • Coveo — choose this if your primary problem is customer-facing search, ecommerce, support, or personalization, rather than employees searching internal knowledge.
  • Azure AI Search — choose this if you have a strong engineering team and want to build your own RAG/AI search application rather than buy an employee search product.
  • Google Vertex AI Search — particularly attractive for a Google Cloud/Gemini-centric organization.
  • Elastic — excellent if search infrastructure and customization are strategic capabilities. I would not choose the old standalone Elastic Workplace Search/App Search for a new deployment: Elastic says those standalone Enterprise Search products are being discontinued in 9.0 and recommends moving to the actively developed Elastic Stack tools. GitHub

Bottom line: If you want something employees can start using rather than a search engine your developers have to build, Glean is probably the strongest default choice in 2026.

If you tell me your company size, Microsoft vs. Google stack, and what systems you need to search (Slack, Salesforce, Jira, SharePoint, etc.), I can give you a more rigorous Glean vs. Coveo vs. Microsoft vs. Elastic comparison, including likely pricing and implementation effort.

Glean has also evolved beyond traditional search into an enterprise AI platform with Assistant and Agents, so you're effectively buying search plus a foundation for enterprise AI workflows.
